Anchoring at Cala di Volpe, Sardinia

Then we reached our last anchor spot. 😭… We headed for Cala di Volpe which is host for all the famous🍾🥂.

Even Lady Diana the late Princess has been at this spot. We figured that if it is good enough for a Lady why not for us.

It was a wonderful spot for an evening and night at anchor, even if it was quite windy when arriving late afternoon but it became perfect later.

Last days of sailing Sardinia spring 2017

Then we came to the end of our marvellous week of sailing Sardinia, May 2017.

We thought we could end this with a short movie. We hope you will enjoy it.

Next trip is already booked. It will be Malta.

If we find a nice sailing yacht or a sailing catamaran we will book this. Otherwise it will be a booooooring hotel.

To Guest on S/V “Blue Moon” – Part 5

May 23rd 2017

Another beautiful and sunny morning wakes us up – we must be in paradise, surely!

08.15h: while planning our day, we are having our coffee. It’s Tuesday and today we would spend the night in a marina. Mainly to buy some fresh bread, veggies and fruits….ah, we also needed some beer and wine. But also to find out how it works with the radio and registering etc., etc.

We planned to sail southwards, passing the marina where we would spend the night, turn around after a while (depends on the winds) and head for the marina.

Our first choice was the “Marina di Puntaldia”, which lays in the bay called Porto Brandinghi. According to our “bible” it seemed an excellent option, with good shelter, all the facilities one needs, a mini market for shopping, plus restaurants & bars. The price class was a 6+, which means the highest standard, with a fee from EUR 100.00 per night (July-August).

Well, we thought it was worth it, since we would only spend one night in a marina – so, why not spoil oneself a little bit?

Nevertheless, we still had a day of sailing ahead of us! So after WOBBLES, we left at 10 o’clock with fair winds and a sunny smile in our faces!

After 11h we hoisted both sails, the winds had reached a great 7-8.5 knots and we enjoyed another fantastic day on the sea.

While passing “Marina di Puntaldia”, we noticed another marina, a bit south. This one is called “Porto Ottiolu” and after reading about it in “the book”, we decided to spend the night there instead. The price was almost the same: a 6, which means between EUR 70.00-100.00 per night. Lucky we did, as it turned out!

But first we had to accomplish our first tacking – which was around 2 p.m. It went so smooth and perfect, we were almost a bit embarrassed…..Franco would have been proud of us!

Further we went and our next stop was “Porto Ottiolu”.

After a couple of tries, Patrik finally reached someone at the marina, asking if they had room for us. “Yes , of course, we and “Blue Moon” would be very welcome”.

Approximately one nautical mile outside Patrik called again as instructed and the lady said, someone will be waiting for us, showing our mooring. And sure enough, a guy in a dinghy was waiting for us, waving and directing us to our spot (which was C 14).

Everything went fine, Patrik backed perfectly, the guy had meanwhile jumped ashore, in order to assist us with the ropes. And then I messed it all up: I threw the line to the man, he pulled it through a mooring ring, tossed the line back to me and I started to secure it on the cleat – unfortunately from the wrong side of the railing! The guy shouted “No, no, no, signora!” – it took ages until I realised, why!

*arghhh* – so damned embarrassing and unnecessary!! Bloody amateur (me of course)!!!

Anyhow, at 15.20h our cat was secured and we decided to do the registering at once. Then check out the showers, have a well-deserved cold drink, do the grocery shopping and return to “Blue Moon”.

Said and done, we walked along other yachts, passed restaurants, tourist shops, more shops, bars, some pretty terraced houses…..well, we soon noticed that our mooring was about as far away as possible from the registration office. It took us almost half an hour to get there. Incredibly, the bee line between our boat and the office was actually just about 30 metres, but  – annoyingly – we couldn’t walk on water and none of us was in the mood to swim over there……So we walked!

No problems there, luckily, we didn’t forget a thing and the lady was very helpful. The fee was EUR 86.22 which we paid by credit card.

Then finally, a big, cold beer for Patrik and an icy “Spritz” for me. DIVINE!

While sitting in the comfy armchairs, enjoying the fantastic view over the marina, we tried to imagine, how this incredibly lovely village must look like in high season. VERY CROWDED! Definitely not a place where we wanted to be!

Then it was time for grocery shopping and after that we went back to our boat, stowing the stuff away. Since we had plenty of time (we decided, we would have dinner in one of the restaurants), we wanted to have a “spacy” shower tonight, at the marina. Which obviously meant, another loooong walk to the other side again (the showers were just beside the office, hahaha….).

Never mind, a bit of walking felt quite good and the showers – although some parts were under construction – were very clean and spacious. Half an hour later we were on the way back to our boat.

While passing different restaurants, we tried to decide at which one we would have dinner. We choose “Nautilus”, because they had the biggest selection with vegetarian meals. The outdoor area looked very beautiful, just a few metres from the water and some yachts!

It became dark when we arrived at the restaurant and we took our time to select our dinner, while enjoying a glass of prosecco. The staff was super friendly and courteous and helped us to choose a suitable red wine.

All in all, it was such a romantic evening with a fantastic candlelight dinner. At the end we ordered espresso, accompanied by a very tasteful grappa!

Afterwards, we were actually glad to go for a stroll and just after midnight we were in our bed. Happy and full of unforgettable impressions!

Good night world – sleep tight!

Her comes a little video when sailing.

The Birthday Party in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg

My / our dear friend Pascale, who lives in Luxembourg, had her “five-zero”- birthday on March 28th!

If THAT wasn’t a reason to plan a trip to the little Grand Duchy…… The invitation hang on our fridge for quite a while now, so finally the weekend has arrived and we looked very forward to see each other (and many more friends) again. Over New Year it was the last time, at Doris and Rolf’s place!

The birthday party was planned for Saturday evening, April 1st. So Patrik and I decided to leave home already on Friday after work, , spend the night in a nice hotel and arrive in Luxembourg well-rested and ready to party!

Four o’clock we were ready, the sun was shining and Odin’s cat sitter Cony was organized – and off we were.

The plan was ACTUALLY, to drive through Vosges – a beautiful mountain range in France, on the way to Luxembourg. Very scenic with pretty villages and lovely, cosy-looking hotels.

Well, somehow we missed a sign and drove wrong differently. So after about four hours drive, we arrived at a village, called Gérardmer and settled on the hotel “Beau Rivage”, which lies directly at the lake. A quick shower and – since it was already after eight – we decided to eat dinner at the hotels restaurant.

Patrik’s meal apparently was very nice – he had some Angus steak with veggies. But my so much acclaimed mixed salad was such a disappointment…. well, we were in France after all, and unfortunately, they are still not used to vegetarians….very sad!

At least the wine we’ve ordered was fantastic and so the evening slowly came to an end – before eleven o’clock we were in bed.

After breakfast the next morning, we checked out at 10.30h and left Gérardmer. According to the GPS, we were about 2.5 hrs away from Hoscheid, the village in Luxembourg, were the party was and our hotel room was waiting for us.

Sure enough, after a relaxing drive we arrived at the “Hotel des Ardennes” after lunch and already met our friends Doris and Rolf, who sat in the restaurant, enjoying an expresso. Patrik and I checked in quickly, carried the luggage to our lovely room and joined our friends downstairs.

During afternoon more and more friends, who also were invited, showed up and there was a big “hello” and “how are you”. Many we haven’t seen since last summer.

Soon it was time to get ready and I couldn’t wait to finally meet Pascale! She rented a room for her party in the leisure facility, which was about a 10 minutes walk from the hotel.

After six thirty Patrik and I arrived there – just in time – and we could finally congratulate Pascale give her the presents and many hugs! Oh, it was super, to see her again 🙂

According to her, we were around 100 people and the atmosphere was a happy one. Meeting and greeting, laughing a lot, enjoying the drinks, the food and the band….well, it couldn’t have been better and the time went far too quick!

I have to admit, I couldn’t tell you the exact time, when we left the party and went back to the hotel….but it was still dark outside *hahaha*

Anyway, after a few hours sleep, we met for breakfast….at least a few of us. Pascale and Pat – her partner – were also there. Despite lack of sleep, everyone was talking, laughing and many enjoyed already a glass of Crémant (not me, though).

Unfortunately, time went too quick and after a couple of hours it was time to say goodbye….although, not before promising that we will meet soon again. After all, Luxembourg and Switzerland is not THAT far away from each other. Or, Pascale and I could meet halfway for a weekend 🙂

What a splendid idea…..it made the farewell a tiny bit easier! So long, everybody!!

As you noticed, instead of photo’s we try this post with a short movie, which we made during our trip to Luxembourg. We are still learning and improvement is necessary! But we are on track 🙂

Wish you all great week and take care!

Spring has arrived in Switzerland, Harley time

Finally the warm weather have arrived here in Switzerland. With temperatures between 17 – 20°C and a lot of sun.

Just wonderful and even Odin loves it and start enjoying to be outside again without freezing his a.. off.

For me it’s Harley time.

Monday afternoon it was time for the first ride this year. When I took my little ride I mounted the camera on the bike and cut together a little movie later.

It was a short but nice trip up to Lake Constanze. On my way back I drove around where we live to show how it looks like.
